A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was shot at Friday morning while following a suspicious vehicle near a Northwest Side hotel, where another trooper’s unmarked vehicle had been burglarized, DPS sergeant Dila Hidalgo said.
In a release, Hidalgo said a trooper was staying at the Homewood Suites by Hilton in the 4300 block of Spectrum One when he discovered around 4:55 a.m. that his state-issued unmarked vehicle had been broken into and several items were stolen.
This prompted a response from San Antonio police and another DPS trooper, who responded to the scene three minutes later.
When they arrived, the trooper saw a suspicious vehicle in the area and tried to get its license plate information, but unknown occupants fired a weapon toward the trooper’s vehicle, Hidalgo said.
According to DPS, the trooper was not injured and he did not discharge his weapon.
At this time, the suspects remain at large, Hidalgo said.
It’s unclear on what items were stolen.
